Abstract

The text presents an overview of the evolution of Brazilian law between 1827 and 1927, focusing on three fundamental axes: constitutional law, family law, and property law. Clóvis Beviláqua highlights the political transformations from Empire to Republic, the gradual expansion of individual freedoms, the 1916 Civil Code and its impact on the legal status of women, the organization of the family, and the indissolubility of marriage. He also examines the adaptation of the property regime to social and economic demands, as well as the first steps of labour legislation.
