Abstract

This paper analyzes parodies in Brazilian copyright law.  Regarded as a limitation to copyrights, parody has its foundation on freedom of expression. However, as any other right, it is limited. In this sense, the paper aims to analyze the limits of such, emphasizing the legal requirements for parody music. Besides that, not only does this paper provides an analysis of article 47 of Brazilian Copyright Law (Law 9.610, 1998) based on precedents and scholars’ works which deal with parody, but also offers an  interdisciplinary view which is certainly necessary for analyzing such matter.
